Morocco international Sofyan Amrabat is expected to leave Real Betis at the end of the 2025/26 season after the Spanish club reportedly decided against making his loan spell permanent.

The midfielder will return to Turkish side Fenerbahçe, where he remains under contract, following Betis’ decision to walk away from a full transfer despite securing qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Betis Decide Against Permanent Deal

According to reports from Fichajes, Real Betis have ruled out signing Amrabat on a permanent basis after assessing both the financial and sporting aspects of the proposed transfer.

Club officials reportedly concluded that the cost of completing the deal did not represent sufficient value given the player’s contributions during the campaign.

Inconsistent Performances Raise Doubts

Amrabat featured in 29 matches for the Andalusian club during the season, offering experience, physicality, and defensive solidity in midfield.

However, his performances were reportedly viewed as inconsistent, leading to concerns within the coaching staff about his ability to maintain the level required on a regular basis. Manager Manuel Pellegrini and his technical team were said to be unconvinced that the Moroccan international should be a long-term solution in midfield.

Financial Factors Influence Decision

The financial package required to secure Amrabat’s services also played a significant role in Betis’ decision.

Reports suggest that a permanent transfer would have cost the club around €12 million, while the player’s annual salary would have exceeded €4 million. Faced with those figures, Betis opted to focus on alternative targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

Return to Fenerbahçe Awaits

As a result, Amrabat is set to return to Fenerbahçe, where his current contract runs until June 2028.

The Turkish giants are expected to discuss the next phase of his career once he returns, with the possibility of either reintegrating him into the squad or considering offers from interested clubs.

World Cup Focus Remains

Despite his uncertain club future, Amrabat remains an important figure for the Moroccan national team and continues to attract interest from clubs across Europe.

The 29-year-old is part of Morocco’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will be hoping to use the tournament as an opportunity to remind clubs of his quality on the international stage.
