Siwelele sack Lehlohonolo Seema after winless start to Betway Premiership season

Siwelele have dismissed head coach Lehlohonolo Seema and assistant coach Willem Jackson after a poor beginning to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.

The club announced the changes on Monday, saying both members of the first-team coaching staff had been removed from their duties while Siwelele assess the performance of the senior squad and its technical programme.

“Following a disappointing start to the 2026/27 season, Siwelele have relieved head coach Lehlohonolo Seema and assistant coach Willem Jackson of their first-team duties, while the club conducts a review of the senior team’s performance and technical programme,” Siwelele said via a statement on Monday.

Siwelele have yet to win a league match this season, taking two points from five games after suffering three defeats and drawing twice. Their latest setback came on Sunday, when they lost 3-2 to Kaizer Chiefs at Dobsonville Stadium.

That result brought an end to Seema’s time in charge, having been appointed by the club in July last year.

The former coach becomes the second Betway Premiership manager to lose his job in the opening part of the season. Sekhukhune United dismissed Cedric Kaze last week.

Siwelele confirmed that Godfrey Mosoetsa would take over as caretaker coach with immediate effect. His first assignment will be a difficult away match against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30.

Seema’s overall record at Siwelele consisted of eight victories in 37 matches. During that period, the club also recorded 15 draws and 14 defeats.

The club’s decision follows a run of results that has left them without a league win and prompted a review of the senior team’s direction. The 3-2 loss to Kaizer Chiefs proved decisive after an opening to the season that had produced only two draws alongside three defeats.

Seema’s departure also means that two Betway Premiership clubs have already changed their head coaches this season. Sekhukhune United acted first when they parted company with Kaze last week, before Siwelele followed with the removal of Seema and Jackson.

Mosoetsa now takes responsibility for preparing the team for Wednesday’s fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns. The match at Loftus Versfeld Stadium is scheduled to begin at 7.30pm.

Seema joined Siwelele in July last year, but his tenure ended after 37 games, with the team winning fewer than a quarter of those matches. The club has not specified how long its review of the senior team’s performance and technical programme will take.
