Siwelele remove Seema after Kaizer Chiefs defeat

Siwelele have parted ways with head coach Lehlohonolo Seema and assistant coach Willem Jackson after Sunday’s 3-2 defeat by Kaizer Chiefs, ending their time in charge following a poor start to the 2026/27 season.

The club confirmed on Monday that both members of the first-team coaching staff had been relieved of their duties.

Godfrey Mosoetsa will take charge as caretaker coach with immediate effect, as Siwelele begin a review of their senior team’s performances and technical programme.

The review will help the club decide how to structure its coaching setup for the remainder of the campaign. Siwelele said a further announcement would be made once that process had been completed.

The decision came less than 24 hours after the defeat by Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday afternoon, a result which left Siwelele among the five clubs still without a win after five matchdays of the 2026/27 season.

Richards Bay, Chippa United, Marumo Gallants and Kruger United are the other winless teams.

Siwelele acknowledged that their opening to the campaign had not met expectations, with supporters seeking an improvement from the team. The club said it would not comment further while its review was under way.

“This has been a challenging period for the club, and our supporters deserve better than what they have seen so far this season,” Siwelele said in a statement.

Although Seema and Jackson have been removed from their first-team roles, the club stressed that the decision did not represent a loss of faith in the squad or the wider project being developed at Siwelele.

“Our belief in this team, in our players and in what we are building at Siwelele remains unchanged.”

Mosoetsa’s immediate responsibility will be to steady the side while the club considers its next steps. Siwelele also called for unity among everyone connected with the club, saying the season remains in its early stages despite the disappointing results.

“This is a moment to stand together, to work harder and to embody the spirit that defines this club: courage, unity and fighting for one another.”

“Our season is still young. We will face the challenge in front of us together, as one team and one family.”

Seema’s departure follows a difficult beginning to the new campaign, with Sunday’s loss to Kaizer Chiefs sealing the change in the technical team. Siwelele will now use the performance review to determine its longer-term coaching approach, while Mosoetsa takes temporary responsibility for the first team.

The club’s next announcement on the coaching structure will come after the review has concluded.
