Sinenhlahla Nkosi returns as Kaizer Chiefs Ladies target historic title

Sinenhlahla Nkosi says returning from a kneecap injury felt “like a dream” after helping Kaizer Chiefs Ladies beat Mamelodi 11 Stars Ladies 3-0 at the Village.

The defender had been out of action since 1 August, when she played against Musa United. Her latest appearance was only her seventh league match, or fewer, for Amakhosazana this season.

Speaking to SABC Sport, the 20-year-old said she was especially pleased to mark her comeback with a win as Kaizer Chiefs continued their pursuit of the league title in their debut campaign.

“It felt really good. Honestly, after being out for weeks, I realised how much I missed being out there competing. I was just grateful to be back doing what I love and contributing to the team.

“I think the result showed the hunger and belief we have as a team. We know what we want to achieve, and the mandate that was set for us was very clear. So, everyone is willing to put in the work and fight for it. We take it one game at a time,” said Nkosi.

The result took Kaizer Chiefs to the top of the log on 67 points. They have won 21 of their 27 fixtures.

Nkosi believes the team’s form has been built on sustained effort and consistency, but stressed that their campaign will not be complete until they have played their final match.

“To win 21 games out of 27 shows consistency, character and hard work within the team. I think we can really be proud of what we’ve achieved as debutants, although we know the job isn’t done yet. The most important thing now is to carry the momentum into the final stage,” she added.

Kaizer Chiefs will finish the season against Nicko Taurus FA at Munsieville Stadium on Saturday.

Nkosi expects the closing fixture to provide another stern test as the team attempts to end its first season on a positive note.
