Simon Sohm: Fiorentina and Switzerland midfielder linked with Serie A move to Venezia
Switzerland and Nigeria midfielder Simon Sohm is being linked with a move from Fiorentina to Serie A rivals Venezia as the newly promoted club look to strengthen their options in central midfield.
Sohm, 25, is under contract at Fiorentina until 30 June 2030 but his future in Florence has come into focus after a season that included a loan spell at Bologna. Venezia are understood to be tracking the player closely as they assess targets capable of adding top-flight experience and physical presence in the middle of the pitch.
Fiorentina paid €15m to sign Sohm from Parma on 4 August 2025, a sizeable investment in a player whose current market value is listed at €8m. He returned to the Viola this summer after his loan at Bologna officially ended on 30 June 2026, leaving his role in Vincenzo Italiano’s squad – and Fiorentina’s stance on a sale – as key factors in whether talks with Venezia progress.
Sohm has built up significant Serie A experience, making 83 appearances in the Italian top flight and adding a further 12 outings in the Coppa Italia, where he has contributed goals and assists from midfield. At Parma he was part of the side that won the Serie B title in 2023-24, underlining his familiarity with Italian football and its demands.
Born in Zurich and standing at 1.88m, the right-footed central midfielder represents Switzerland and Nigeria at international level and has also featured in European competition, including the Europa League and Europa Conference League. For now, he remains a Fiorentina player preparing for the new season, with Venezia monitoring his situation as they weigh up a potential bid.
