Serhou Guirassy returns to Conakry with Champions League Golden Boot as fans flood airport
Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy received a spectacular welcome in Conakry on Monday evening as hundreds of supporters gathered to celebrate his return with the Champions League Golden Boot following an outstanding campaign with Borussia Dortmund.
The 30-year-old arrived in the Guinean capital carrying the prestigious award after finishing as joint top scorer in Europe’s elite club competition during the 2024-25 season.
His arrival quickly turned into a celebration as fans dressed in Borussia Dortmund’s yellow and black colours filled the airport with songs, dancing and chants in honour of the Syli National star.
Scenes of jubilation greeted the striker the moment he stepped off the plane, with supporters eager to catch a glimpse of one of Guinea’s biggest football icons.
Many wore shirts bearing his name, while others waved and cheered as the forward proudly displayed the Golden Boot he secured after an impressive European run.
The reception underlined Guirassy’s growing status in Guinea, where his performances in Germany and the Champions League have elevated him into one of the country’s most admired sporting figures.
Officials from Guinea’s football and sporting authorities were also present at the airport to welcome the striker.
Guinean Football Federation president Sory Doumbouya attended the celebrations alongside Sports Minister Cellou Baldé as the country paid tribute to the Borussia Dortmund forward.
Guirassy enjoyed one of the finest seasons of his career in Europe, ending the Champions League campaign as joint leading scorer alongside Raphinha.
His domestic form was equally impressive, with the Guinean striker registering 21 goals and five assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances during the previous season.
Despite experiencing a more difficult spell towards the end of 2025, the forward has continued to deliver consistently in front of goal.
Across all competitions this season, he has scored 17 goals in 33 appearances, maintaining the level that has made him indispensable for both club and country.
Guinea will now look towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with renewed hope as they attempt to secure a return to the continental tournament after missing the previous edition.
Drawn in a difficult qualifying group containing South Africa, Kenya and Eritrea, with only one qualification spot available, the Syli National are expected to rely heavily on Guirassy’s experience and goalscoring ability as they pursue a place at AFCON 2027.
