Serge Gnabry could return for Bayern Munich against Bodo/Glimt

Serge Gnabry could be included in the Bayern Munich squad for Thursday’s Champions League meeting with Bodo/Glimt after returning to full team training.

The 31-year-old forward has been recovering from an adductor injury sustained in April and has now taken a significant step towards making his long-awaited comeback.

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany will make a late decision on whether Gnabry is ready to feature. The German club are eager to ensure he is fully prepared before sending him back into competitive action.

“With Serge Gnabry, we have to see and speak after training – there’s a possibility he could be involved,” Kompany said.

“We want to be sure that he feels his best, though.”

Gnabry’s possible return would strengthen Bayern’s attacking options as they continue their Champions League campaign. Kompany is confident the forward can rediscover the form he produced last season and believes his availability will also create greater competition for places.

“If it’s not today, it will be soon, then we’ll have everyone available,” he said.

“The main thing is that we’ve not forgotten how good he was last season. Our aim is for him to get back to that level. We know his qualities.”

Kompany added: “The quicker he comes back the better, we want him for the whole season. When Serge reaches his level, everyone else in that position also has to be good, then you have that competition and sharpness.”

Gnabry has been absent since suffering the adductor problem in April, with Bayern managing his recovery carefully rather than risking an early return. His progress in training has now put him in contention, although the final decision will depend on how he responds after the session.

Musiala comeback continues gradually

Kompany also gave an update on Jamal Musiala, who came off the bench during Bayern’s goalless draw with Schalke 04 on Saturday.

The Germany international has been gradually reintroduced after suffering two collapses during pre-season. Those incidents were caused by absence seizures linked to a neurological condition.

Musiala has since resumed team training and made his first appearance in the Schalke 04 match. However, Kompany said Bayern would continue to manage his return cautiously.

“Jamal Musiala has played some minutes now but is still being built up,” Kompany said.

“He’s felt good since being back training with the team. We’re as close as possible to normality, but we also need to be patient.”

The return of both Gnabry and Musiala would give Kompany more attacking options, but the Bayern manager stressed that the priority remained the players’ readiness and wellbeing.

Gnabry’s involvement against Bodo/Glimt will therefore be determined after training, while Musiala’s recovery is expected to continue in stages following his first competitive minutes since the pre-season incidents.
