FC Lorient have identified Senegalese international Bingourou Kamara as a leading candidate to fill the number two goalkeeper position ahead of their return to Ligue 1.
Currently a free agent, the 28-year-old shot-stopper is being closely monitored by the Breton side as they look to reinforce their goalkeeping department following the exits of Yvon Mvogo and Gaël Alette earlier this summer.
With only veteran Benjamin Leroy remaining as the club’s sole professional goalkeeper, Lorient are actively seeking to bring in two experienced additions between the posts before the season begins.
Kamara, who spent the 2024–25 campaign with Pau FC in Ligue 2, enjoyed one of the most consistent seasons of his career. Making 28 appearances for the southwestern French club, the Senegalese keeper registered seven clean sheets and was widely praised for his performances, culminating in recognition at the UNFP Trophies as one of the division’s standout goalkeepers.
His form has not gone unnoticed by top-flight clubs, and Lorient are now considering him a serious option to provide depth and stability to their goalkeeping corps.
The club is seeking not just a back-up, but a seasoned professional capable of pushing for the starting spot and stepping in with reliability should the need arise.
Kamara brings considerable experience to the table. A product of the youth academy at Tours FC, he has also featured for Strasbourg and Montpellier in Ligue 1.
His top-flight pedigree, combined with his recent resurgence in Ligue 2, has made him an attractive proposition for Lorient’s technical staff.
The club’s return to Ligue 1 brings with it heightened expectations and the need for greater squad depth, particularly in defensive positions. With only one professional goalkeeper currently on the books, reinforcing that area has become a priority for Lorient’s recruitment team.
Kamara’s availability as a free agent makes the potential deal even more appealing financially, as the club works to strengthen its squad while maintaining budgetary discipline.
While negotiations have not yet reached an advanced stage, discussions are said to be ongoing, and the player’s camp is reportedly open to the move.
Kamara is believed to be keen on returning to Ligue 1 and sees Lorient as an ideal opportunity to re-establish himself at the highest level in French football.
The move would also serve Lorient’s aim of building a competitive but balanced squad, with Kamara offering not only security in goal but also the experience needed to mentor younger players in the squad.
As the transfer window progresses, FC Lorient are expected to intensify their efforts to finalise their goalkeeping plans. Whether Bingourou Kamara will ultimately be the one to fill the number two role remains to be seen, but his name remains firmly in contention as the club looks to bolster its squad for the challenges of top-flight football.
