Senegal winger Issa Soumaré completes Rennes move on four-year deal
French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais FC have officially announced the signing of Senegalese forward Issa Soumaré on a four-year contract.
The 25-year-old winger joins Rennes on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract with Le Havre AC. Following the completion of the deal, Soumaré is set to remain with the Breton club until 2030.
The transfer marks an important step in the Senegal international’s career after an impressive 2025/26 campaign. Soumaré enjoyed one of his most productive seasons, scoring eight goals and registering five assists while playing a key role for Le Havre.
His performances attracted interest from several clubs, but Rennes moved swiftly to secure his signature without paying a transfer fee, making the deal a potentially shrewd piece of business ahead of the new season.
Soumaré arrives with valuable Ligue 1 experience and is expected to strengthen Rennes’ attacking options. Known for his pace, direct running, and ability to operate across multiple positions in the final third, the Senegalese winger provides versatility and creativity to the squad.
For Rennes, the acquisition aligns with the club’s ambition to remain competitive in French football and challenge for European qualification. Bringing in a player entering his prime years and coming off a strong season represents a significant boost as preparations continue for the 2026/27 campaign.
The move also offers Soumaré an opportunity to take the next step in his development at a club with higher ambitions and a track record of nurturing talent. With regular playing time and increased expectations, he will be eager to build on last season’s impressive numbers and establish himself as a key figure in Rennes’ attack.
As he begins this new chapter, both the club and its supporters will be hoping the Senegalese winger can replicate the form that made him one of Le Havre’s standout performers and become an important contributor in the years ahead.
