The Lionesses of Senegal are poised to defend their title against Guinea-Bissau in the final of the Union of West African Football Federations, Zone A (UFOA-A) U20 women’s tournament. The highly anticipated match is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Lat Dior Stadium in Thiès.

Both teams secured their spots in the final with impressive semi-final victories on Monday. Senegal showcased their dominance with a resounding 4-0 win over the Republic of Guinea.

The goals were scored by Sokhna Pène (11th minute), Adji Ndiaye (38th), Wolimata Ndiaye (62nd), and Marie Louise Sarr (84th).

This victory marks their fourth consecutive win in the tournament, highlighting their flawless performance. Under the guidance of coach Mbayang Thiam, the defending champions have been exemplary throughout the competition, remaining the only team yet to concede a goal.

Their formidable defense and potent attack have yielded 11 goals in four matches, making them a force to be reckoned with.

On the other hand, Guinea-Bissau earned their place in the final by overcoming Liberia in a dramatic penalty shootout (3-1) after a 1-1 draw in regular time.

Finishing second in Group A, just two points behind Senegal, the Bissau-Guineans are determined to avenge their earlier 1-0 group stage defeat to the Lionesses.

This rematch promises to be a thrilling encounter as Guinea-Bissau, driven by the desire for revenge, will bring their heightened motivation to the field.

Senegal, as the trophy holders, will look to leverage their home advantage and maintain their impeccable record. Captain Wolimata Ndiaye emphasizes the importance of staying focused and not underestimating their opponents.

“We must remain concentrated and respect Guinea-Bissau’s capabilities. Our aim is to defend our title with the same determination and teamwork we’ve shown throughout the tournament,” Ndiaye stated.

The final is not the only match scheduled for the day at the Lat Dior Stadium. Earlier, at 4 p.m., the third-place play-off will feature Guinea against Liberia.

Both teams, having been eliminated by Senegal and Guinea-Bissau respectively, will seek to end their tournament campaigns on a high note.

As the tournament reaches its climax, football fans eagerly await the showdown between Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, a match that promises to deliver excitement and showcase the talents of the region’s young female footballers.
