Malick Thiaw will not be part of Senegal’s squad for the upcoming international fixtures, despite expectations that the AC Milan defender could make his debut for the Lions.
National team coach Pape Thiaw addressed the situation during a press conference on Thursday, revealing that discussions had taken place but stopping short of confirming the player’s commitment.
Talks With Thiaw Yet to Yield a Decision
Pape Thiaw recently met with the German-Senegalese centre-back as part of his efforts to attract dual-national players to the Senegalese national team.
However, the 23-year-old was not included in the squad for the March training camp. Despite this, the coach suggested that Thiaw’s arrival in the future remains a strong possibility.
When asked about the player’s situation, the Senegalese coach kept his response cryptic, teasing a potential surprise.
“I did talk to Malick Thiaw, but I prefer to keep it to myself (laughs). It’s a surprise!” Thiaw remarked, leaving the door open for speculation about the defender’s future with the Lions of Teranga.
June Call-Up Still a Possibility
While Malick Thiaw’s omission from the latest squad may be seen as a setback, his international future remains undecided.
With Senegal continuing their efforts to strengthen the squad ahead of key competitions, the AC Milan defender could still make his debut later this year.
As the national team looks ahead to future fixtures, all eyes will be on whether Thiaw ultimately commits to representing Senegal or remains part of Germany’s plans.
