OGC Nice make Alidu Seidu their priority defensive target

OGC Nice have identified Stade Rennais defender Alidu Seidu as their preferred option to strengthen the defence following Antoine Mendy’s serious left-knee injury.

According to information from L’Equipe, the Ghana international has emerged as the club’s main target. However, Nice must first receive approval from Ineos, the club’s owner, before formally opening negotiations with Stade Rennais.

Seidu, 26, has considerable Ligue 1 experience, having made 106 appearances in France’s top division. He joined Rennes in January 2024 after several seasons with Clermont Foot.

The defender can operate in a back three and is also capable of filling in at right-back, attributes which fit Nice’s current requirements.

Seidu remains under contract with Stade Rennais until June 2029, but he is reportedly no longer part of the club’s plans. Rennes would be prepared to allow him to leave, although only on loan with an option to buy.

His estimated market value is €6m, according to Transfermarkt. Ouest-France has also reported that discussions have begun between Nice and Seidu, who could be signed as a medical joker.

Stade Rennais are due to play their fourth match of the French league season against OM soon.
