Nigerian-eligible Tim Iroegbunam cleared for Hull City debut against Chelsea

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed that Tim Iroegbunam is fit and available for selection ahead of the Tigers’ Premier League meeting with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Nigerian-eligible midfielder has been sidelined since joining Hull City from Everton during the summer transfer window, leaving him without an appearance for the newly promoted side.

Iroegbunam had resumed training following his injury but was left out of Hull City’s matches against Aston Villa and Sunderland in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

His return to full fitness, however, has now put him in contention to make his long-awaited debut for the Tigers when they travel to London.

Jakirovic revealed that the 22-year-old completed a normal training session and has been cleared to feature against Chelsea, provided he is selected.

“Tim trained normally today,” Jakirovic was quoted as saying by Hull Daily Mail.

The Hull boss indicated that Iroegbunam’s workload had been carefully managed as part of his recovery, with the club taking into account his physical data from his previous spell at Everton.

Hull step up Iroegbunam’s fitness work

Jakirovic explained that Everton provided Hull City with the midfielder’s GPS data following his injury, allowing the Tigers’ coaching staff to assess his workload before deciding how best to build up his fitness.

According to the manager, Iroegbunam had not covered sufficient distance during the period immediately after his injury, prompting Hull’s staff to increase his workload gradually.

“That was the plan that he stayed at home, that he do a good session. It’s about fitness and today he is good so he is available.”

The manager stressed that the additional work was part of a planned process rather than a fresh fitness concern, with Hull keen to ensure the midfielder was physically ready before introducing him into competitive action.

“He had the injury and Everton sent us the GPS after the injury, we saw there was not so many kilometres so we have to push there. After the injury this is normal. It’s everything by the plan,”

Iroegbunam’s availability provides Jakirovic with another midfield option for a demanding assignment against Chelsea, while the player himself will be eager to finally begin his Hull City career.

Iroegbunam eyes first Hull appearance

The midfielder arrived at the MKM Stadium after making a respectable contribution during his final campaign with Everton.

He featured in 29 league matches for the Toffees and registered three assists, gaining valuable Premier League experience before making the move to the promoted Tigers.

That experience could prove useful as Hull City prepare for the challenge of facing Chelsea away from home.

For Iroegbunam, the immediate objective will be to translate his return to full training into his first competitive appearance for his new club.

With Jakirovic confirming that he is now available, the midfielder will hope to be included in the matchday squad and potentially make his Hull City debut at Stamford Bridge.

A first appearance against Chelsea would mark the latest step in his recovery and give the Nigerian-eligible midfielder an opportunity to begin establishing himself at Hull following his summer switch from Everton.
