Scott opener not enough for Bournemouth as Hull City claim narrow Coventry win

Everton scored in the first minute of stoppage time to earn a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth, while Hull City secured a 1-0 victory at Coventry City in the second round of the Premier League on Saturday.

Both matches remained undecided until the closing stages, with Bournemouth surrendering a lead at home and Hull City finally breaking the deadlock with eight minutes of normal time remaining.

Bournemouth looked on course for victory after controlling much of the contest at Vitality Stadium. The hosts created the greater share of the pressure and were rewarded shortly before half-time.

Alex Scott put Bournemouth ahead in the 41st minute, finishing after a decisive assist from Evanilson. The goal gave the home side a 1-0 advantage at the interval and appeared to have put them in a strong position to claim all three points.

Everton, however, continued to compete until the final moments and found an equaliser deep into stoppage time. James Tarkowski struck in the 91st minute to deny Bournemouth victory and take a valuable point back to Merseyside.

The late goal turned what had looked like a home win into a draw and ensured Everton avoided defeat despite spending most of the match behind. Bournemouth were left to settle for a point after holding the lead for almost the entire second half.

Hull City leave Coventry with late win

At Coventry Building Society Arena, Hull City also needed a late goal to settle a closely fought match.

The score stayed 0-0 until the 82nd minute, when Liam Millar finally gave Hull City the breakthrough. He received a well-weighted pass from Mohamed Belloumi before scoring the goal that put the visitors in front.

Coventry City were unable to find an equaliser during the remaining minutes. Hull City held on to claim a valuable three points away from home, while the result gave further encouragement to a side that had been forced to wait patiently for its opportunity.

For Coventry City, the defeat was their first of the season and added to Frank Lampard’s difficulties. The hosts had remained level for more than 80 minutes, but were unable to respond once Hull City moved ahead.

The two fixtures followed a similar pattern, with the decisive moments arriving late. Bournemouth had been within sight of victory before Tarkowski’s stoppage-time intervention changed the outcome, while Hull City’s persistence was rewarded when Millar broke Coventry City’s resistance in the closing stages.

Everton’s point came through a goal in the 91st minute, whereas Hull City’s winner arrived in the 82nd. Those late strikes made the difference in two matches that had otherwise been tightly balanced, leaving the hosts in the first fixture frustrated and Coventry City with their first loss of the campaign.
