Al Ahly to sign new player

Al Ahly are considering strengthening their midfield with the signing of a foreign defensive midfielder during the January transfer window as the Egyptian giants begin planning for the second half of the season.

The Cairo-based club are assessing their squad needs ahead of the next transfer period, with the technical team keen to build a balanced squad capable of competing on multiple fronts and maintaining their challenge for domestic honours.

According to reports, Al Ahly are moving towards recruiting a foreign player who specialises in defensive midfield duties. However, the journalist has not disclosed the identity or nationality of the potential target, and there is no confirmation that the club have opened formal negotiations to secure his services.

The proposed recruitment is also linked to the future of Moroccan forward Reda Slim, whose possible departure could create room for another foreign player in the squad. Al Ahly’s management are reportedly assessing the situation as they consider how best to utilise their available foreign-player slots without disrupting the team’s overall plans.

Beyond the midfield, the club are also evaluating other areas that could require reinforcements, particularly the defence. The objective is to improve the team’s balance, provide the coaching staff with more tactical options and ensure the squad can cope with the demanding schedule in the coming months.

Al Ahly were active in the previous summer transfer window, bringing in seven players as part of efforts to refresh their squad. The reported arrivals included Moroccan Sofiane Benjdida, Algerian Monsef Bekar, Aktai Abdullah, Ali Mahmoud, Akram Tawfik, Mahmoud Salah and Tawfik Mohamed.

Despite those additions, the Egyptian champions are continuing to assess the market for potential opportunities to address specific weaknesses in the team.

Al Ahly currently sit second in the Egyptian Premier League standings with 16 points, two behind leaders Pyramids. The narrow gap at the top leaves little room for further dropped points, increasing the importance of careful planning ahead of the second half of the campaign.

With the January transfer window approaching, the possible recruitment of a foreign defensive midfielder could become a key part of Al Ahly’s efforts to strengthen their squad and sustain their pursuit of silverware. However, the identity of the target and the club’s next steps remain unconfirmed.
