Scott McTominay has been declared fit to resume competitive football after recovering from a heart procedure, with Napoli confirming the Scotland international has returned to full training.
The 29-year-old midfielder underwent a planned ablation at Manchester’s Spire Hospital in September after being diagnosed with a mild, benign heart arrhythmia.
McTominay has since completed additional medical examinations, which showed he could safely return to sporting activity. He initially trained separately from his Napoli team-mates during his recovery but has now rejoined the squad.
“Scott McTominay underwent further diagnostic tests, which showed that he is fit to play,” Napoli said in a statement.
“The Napoli player therefore resumed training with the rest of the team after the period spent training separately.”
McTominay has not played since 30 August. He missed Napoli’s 3-2 Serie A defeat by Inter Milan and their Champions League loss to Arsenal.
His availability is a boost for manager Massimiliano Allegri, who can now consider selecting him for Napoli’s Serie A match against Frosinone on Saturday.
Napoli are ninth in the Serie A table, while Frosinone are sixth.
