Saudi side Al Ahli step up interest in Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr

Al Ahli have made enquiries about Tottenham and Senegal midfielder Pape Matar Sarr as the end of the transfer window approaches.

According to Simon Jones of the Daily Mail, the Saudi Arabian club has requested information about the 23-year-old, although no formal offer has yet been submitted to Tottenham. Al Ahli’s interest could nevertheless lead to the situation developing quickly in the coming weeks.

The club are not the only potential suitors monitoring Sarr’s position. Premier League sides Brentford and Aston Villa are also understood to be watching the Senegal international, whose versatility and energy in midfield have made him an attractive option for teams seeking reinforcements in that area.

Tottenham have not completely closed the door on a departure. The London club could consider a transfer if a sufficiently attractive proposal arrives, leaving Al Ahli to decide whether to make a formal move or risk being beaten to an offer by one of the interested English clubs.

Sarr joined Tottenham from Metz and is currently under contract with the Spurs until June 2030. The midfielder, who is originally from Thiaroye, is valued at €30m by Transfermarkt.

He earns an annual salary of €4,254,114, equivalent to 2,765,174,100 CFA francs, in England. With his long-term contract in place, Tottenham would be in a strong position to assess any approach before deciding whether to sanction a sale.

Sarr’s future could therefore become one of the issues to watch during the remainder of the transfer window. Al Ahli’s initial enquiry has not yet resulted in a bid, while Brentford and Aston Villa remain possible destinations should either club choose to make a concrete proposal.
