Saudi giants Al-Ahli confirm departure of Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie
Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli have officially announced the departure of Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie following the expiration of his contract with the club.
The Saudi club confirmed the news through its official account on X, posting a photo of the midfielder in the team’s jersey alongside a farewell message that read: “Thank you to President Franck Kessie for everything.”
End of a successful chapter
Kessie leaves Al-Ahli as a free agent after the club opted not to renew the midfielder’s contract, which expired at the end of June.
The Ivory Coast international joined Al-Ahli in the summer of 2023 from Barcelona and quickly established himself as one of the team’s most influential players. His leadership qualities and commanding performances in midfield earned him a key role within the squad and made him one of the club’s standout figures during his time in Saudi Arabia.
Trophy-filled spell in Saudi Arabia
During his three seasons with Al-Ahli, Kessie played an important role in the club’s success, helping the team secure three major trophies.
Among the highlights of his spell were two AFC Champions League titles and one Saudi Super Cup triumph.
The 29-year-old made 119 appearances across all competitions for Al-Ahli, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists throughout his time with the club.
His departure now brings an end to a highly successful era for both the player and the Saudi side, with Kessie leaving behind a strong legacy after becoming one of the club’s most important leaders on and off the pitch.
