Saudi Arabia set for second successive Concacaf Gold Cup appearance in 2027

Saudi Arabia will take part in the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation has announced.

The senior national team, known as the Green Falcons, will return to the competition after making their debut at the 2025 edition, when they reached the quarter-finals.

In a statement, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation said: “The senior national team will participate in the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup.”

The tournament is scheduled to begin in June 2027 and will feature 16 national teams. Saudi Arabia’s involvement will represent their second consecutive appearance in the competition.

The Green Falcons’ first Gold Cup campaign in 2025 ended in the last eight. Their return for the 2027 tournament means the team will again compete in a competition organised by Concacaf, despite Saudi Arabia being a member of the Asian Football Confederation.

Concacaf is yet to announce the host cities and stadiums for the 2027 tournament. The organisation is also expected to confirm the full fixture schedule after the qualifying phase has been completed in March.

Saudi Arabia’s participation forms part of the national team’s preparation programme for upcoming international commitments, according to the federation’s statement.

The federation said the tournament would provide the Green Falcons with the opportunity to face teams from different footballing backgrounds, while helping improve their technical readiness and adding to the international experience of the players.

The 2027 competition will therefore offer Saudi Arabia another extended period of international preparation. The team’s previous appearance in 2025 provided its first experience of the Gold Cup and saw it progress through to the quarter-finals.

Further details about the venues, cities and match dates will be released by Concacaf once the qualification process reaches its conclusion in March. Until then, the confirmed elements of Saudi Arabia’s involvement are its place in the 16-team field, the start of the tournament in June, and its status as a returning participant following its quarter-final run in 2025.

For the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, the announcement places the Gold Cup within the wider planning of the senior national side. The stated aim is to use matches against a range of footballing schools to raise the squad’s level of readiness and strengthen the players’ experience on the international stage.
