Salah arrival will energise Turkish league, says MP Sarıgul

Mustafa Sarıgul has described Mohamed Salah’s move to Trabzonspor as a landmark achievement for Turkish football, saying the Egypt captain’s arrival will benefit both the club and the wider game in Turkey.

Salah has signed a two-season contract with Trabzonspor that will run until the summer of 2028. He was presented wearing the number 10 shirt alongside club president Ertugrul Dogan in a high-profile ceremony that attracted significant attention across the international sporting community.

Sarıgul, a Turkish MP representing Erzincan for the New Change Party, praised the deal in an official statement and highlighted the wider role played by sports clubs in the development of their cities.

He said clubs could provide economic and social value, bring people together and strengthen unity and solidarity. In that context, Sarıgul described Trabzonspor as an example of what a football club can contribute to its community.

The MP said the Turkish club’s success in securing a player of Salah’s global standing represented a major achievement. He added that the signing would bring considerable benefits to Trabzonspor and Turkish football as a whole, while helping to raise the standard of the game.

Sarıgul also said Salah could have an important influence on younger players. He believes the Egypt captain’s presence could provide an example for aspiring footballers and help encourage the emergence of new talent.

The transfer is expected, in Sarıgul’s view, to add greater energy and excitement to the Turkish league this season. He congratulated Dogan, the club’s board of directors and everyone involved in completing the agreement.

Sarıgul also offered his wishes for the club’s success following the signing.

The presentation marked Salah’s first appearance in a Trabzonspor shirt, with the forward taking his place on the pitch in the number 10 jersey beside Dogan. The ceremony was presented as an exceptional occasion and drew attention well beyond Turkey.

For Sarıgul, however, the significance of the agreement extends beyond the immediate excitement surrounding one of football’s best-known players. He views the deal as an opportunity for Trabzonspor to strengthen its position while contributing to the development and visibility of Turkish football.

His comments focused on the potential long-term effect of the transfer, particularly its possible contribution to young players and the creation of future stars. He also linked the club’s successful recruitment of Salah to the broader social and economic importance of football teams in their cities.

Salah’s two-year agreement means he is scheduled to remain with Trabzonspor until the summer of 2028. The move has now been welcomed by Sarıgul as a signing capable of reshaping the atmosphere around the Turkish league and providing an important platform for the club and the country’s football.
