Ismael Saibari is expected to be out for around three months after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury suffered in the 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund in the German league on Saturday.
The Morocco international’s operation was required to treat the injury sustained during the match. The timeframe for his recovery means he faces a lengthy spell away from competitive football before he can return to action.
The setback is a blow for Bayern Munich as well as Morocco, with Saibari now beginning a period of rehabilitation. He will need to regain full fitness before considering a return to competition.
Morocco plans disrupted
Saibari’s absence also affects Morocco’s preparations for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying matches against Niger.
The Lions of the Atlas are scheduled to play Niger on 13 and 17 November, but Saibari will miss both fixtures as he recovers from his ankle operation.
Morocco manager Mohamed Ouahbi must therefore plan without one of his midfield options. His absence leaves the coach with decisions to make in the centre of the pitch ahead of the two qualifiers.
According to Bild, Saibari’s recovery is expected to last approximately three months. For the player, the immediate priority is to complete his rehabilitation and restore his physical condition before returning to competitive football.
