RS Berkane talks with Cape Verde coach Bubista reach breakthrough

RS Berkane’s negotiations with Cape Verde manager Bubista have taken a positive turn, with the coach due to arrive in Morocco on Saturday as the two sides work towards a final agreement.

The Moroccan club is searching for a new manager after Mouine Chaabani left his position to take charge of the Tunisia national team.

According to Moroccan website Le Site Info Sport, Bubista is expected to travel to Morocco on Saturday to continue discussions with RS Berkane and seek a definitive agreement to become the club’s next manager. The latest stage of the talks is understood to have produced a breakthrough after negotiations had previously stalled.

The main obstacle was Bubista’s desire to continue combining his role as Cape Verde manager with the job at RS Berkane. He had indicated that he wanted to remain in charge of the national team and join up with the squad during international breaks.

That proposal had prompted reservations from the RS Berkane hierarchy, who would prefer to appoint a manager able to devote himself fully to the club. The Moroccan side had operated under that arrangement during Chaabani’s time in charge and is seeking a similar commitment from his successor.

The final outcome of the negotiations is expected to become clearer in the coming hours, with Bubista’s arrival in Morocco providing an opportunity for both parties to settle the remaining details.

Bubista has attracted considerable attention through his work with Cape Verde. Under his leadership, the national team secured qualification for the last 32 of the World Cup, marking a significant achievement for the country.

Cape Verde’s World Cup campaign ended in the last 32 with a 3-2 defeat by Argentina. Despite that result, Bubista’s role in guiding the team through to the knockout stage has strengthened his reputation and contributed to RS Berkane’s interest in appointing him.

The club’s discussions with the coach have therefore focused not only on whether he will take over in Morocco, but also on the extent to which he could continue his international responsibilities. Bubista’s preferred arrangement would allow him to remain with Cape Verde and attend the team’s camps during international windows, while also managing RS Berkane.
