Richmond Lamptey, midfielder for Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, has extended his best wishes to recently released teammate Danlad Ibrahim as the goalkeeper embarks on new endeavors.
Ibrahim, part of a mass player release by the Porcupine Warriors following the conclusion of the 2023-2024 Ghana Premier League season, received warm regards from Lamptey, reflecting on their shared journey at the club.
The departure of Ibrahim, who was among 11 players released by Kotoko after their sixth-place finish in the league, marks the end of a chapter for the team despite recording notable achievements during the season.
Among the released players were Ivorian international Serge Eric Zeze, former Ghana Premier League champion George Mfegue from Cameroon, and Sherif Mohammed, a prominent figure in the squad.
Lamptey, who had previously won the GPL title alongside Ibrahim two seasons ago, expressed his sentiments on social media, highlighting their camaraderie both on and off the field.
“It was nice having you as a teammate and friend. Good luck in your future endeavors,” Lamptey conveyed on his X page, formerly known as Twitter.
Both Lamptey and Ibrahim had also represented Ghana at different levels of international football. Lamptey featured in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations squad, showcasing his prowess on the continental stage.
The departure of Ibrahim, a member of Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad, underscores the changes underway at Kotoko as they aim to refresh their squad dynamics and pursue future successes in domestic and potentially international competitions.
As Kotoko looks ahead to the upcoming season, the club continues to evaluate its roster and strategic plans to maintain its competitive edge in the Ghana Premier League and other football competitions.
The well-wishes from Lamptey reflect the mutual respect and camaraderie among players at Kotoko, highlighting the professionalism and sportsmanship within the team despite the challenges of player turnover in professional football.
