Kaizer Chiefs confirm Glody Lilepo transfer to Al Ahly Benghazi

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the sale of Democratic Republic of Congo international Glody Makabi Lilepo to Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi.

The 29-year-old winger has completed his move to the Libyan giants after missing Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-season campaign and being left out of the starting line-up for the club’s opening match of the season.

Lilepo’s departure follows a change in the technical set-up at Kaizer Chiefs, with the Soweto club deciding to make the versatile attacker available for transfer. An agreement over the transfer fee has now been reached between the two clubs.

“Democratic Republic of Congo-born forward Glody Makabi Lilepo has completed a move from Kaizer Chiefs to Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi, following an agreement on the transfer fee between the two Clubs,” the club said in a brief statement.

Lilepo joined Kaizer Chiefs in January 2025 from French club Valenciennes. During his one-and-a-half-year spell with the South African side, he made 56 appearances in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing five assists.

Although primarily used as a winger, Lilepo could also operate as a forward, giving Chiefs another option in attack. His ability to play in different positions made him a valuable member of the squad during his time at Naturena.

During his time at Amakhosi, Lilepo featured in 56 matches in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing 5 assists for the team. His versatility as both a winger and forward made him a valuable option in Chiefs’ attacking setup.”

Lilepo’s time with Kaizer Chiefs included a major domestic success soon after his arrival. He helped the club win the Nedbank Cup only four months after joining, while one of his goals was also nominated for Goal of the Season at the PSL awards for the 2025/26 season.

His exit brings an end to a period in which he produced several memorable performances for Amakhosi. Chiefs thanked the player for his contribution and wished him well as he begins the next stage of his career in Libya.

“Lilepo’s departure marks the end of an impactful one-and-a-half-year spell at Naturena where he contributed several memorable performances whenever he donned the Chiefs jersey.

“Some of the highlights include winning the Nedbank Cup barely four months after his arrival at Chiefs, and being nominated for goal-of-the-season in the PSL awards in 2025/26 season.

“The Club wishes Lilepo success in Libya and throughout the remainder of his football career.”
