Richards Bay venue set for PSL inspection after four-week suspension

Richards Bay FC chairman Sifiso ‘Jomo’ Biyela says the uMhlathuze Sports Complex will be inspected by PSL chief operating officer Professor Ronnie Schloss on Tuesday, after work was carried out on the pitch.

The Richards Bay-based stadium, which is also the home ground of newly promoted Milford FC, was suspended from hosting official matches for four weeks from 13 August 2026.

The venue must undergo rehabilitation work and pass a follow-up inspection before it can be cleared to stage fixtures again.

Biyela said Schloss would visit Richards Bay with a team to assess the progress made at the stadium and determine whether it is ready to reopen.

“From what I’ve seen, I think the rain helped us because the grass is starting to be green,” Biyela told Ukhozi FM.

“I’m not an expert on that, but Professor [Ronnie Schloss] is coming with his team tomorrow [Tuesday] to check how far the pitch is.

“So, we’re praying that if he looks at it, he approves that we can play. Tomorrow at 11 they will be in Richards Bay to have a look at it.”

Richards Bay FC are due to play their next home match on 13 October, when they host Mamelodi Sundowns.

Milford FC’s next home fixture is scheduled for 1 November against Sekhukhune United.
