Reims recruit Nigeria Under-20 forward Abdoulaye Agbejoye after WAFU B breakthrough

Stade de Reims have completed the signing of 18-year-old Nigeria Under-20 forward Abdoulaye Agbejoye, securing the highly rated attacking prospect after interest from a number of European clubs.

Agbejoye has been identified as one of the most promising players of his generation in Nigeria and recently drew attention with his performances at the WAFU B U20 tournament in Burkina Faso. His displays during the competition led to interest from several clubs, including Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Club Brugge, as well as a number of teams from Norway.

Stade de Reims ultimately moved ahead of their rivals to complete the deal. The French club have previous experience of recruiting young Nigerian talent and have convinced Agbejoye that France is the right place for the next stage of his development.

The teenager arrives with an impressive record at academy level. Playing for Grassrunners FC, he enjoyed an outstanding season by finishing as both the leading scorer and the best player in the Nigeria Youth League Cup.

Reims are now hoping to help Agbejoye build on that progress within the club’s development structure. His arrival adds another young attacking player to a project that is focused on identifying and nurturing emerging talent.

Agbejoye’s performances for Grassrunners FC and Nigeria Under-20 have helped establish his reputation before he has made the move to European football. The attention from clubs in England, Belgium and Norway underlined the competition for his signature, but Reims succeeded in securing his services.

The signing comes as Stade de Reims prepare for their next Ligue 2 fixture, with Guingamp due to visit in the fifth round of the French second-tier campaign. Agbejoye’s arrival has been confirmed shortly before that match, although the available information does not state whether he will be involved in the game.

The match has also been accompanied by betting prices from 1xbet. The listed odds make Stade de Reims the favourites at 1.78, while a draw is priced at 3.76 and a Guingamp victory at 4.17.

For now, the focus at Reims will be on integrating Agbejoye into the club’s footballing plans and continuing his development following his breakthrough performances in Nigeria. The forward joins with the distinction of being a major award winner at academy level and an established Nigeria Under-20 international, while his displays at the WAFU B U20 tournament have raised expectations around his future.
