Jordan Torunarigha closing in on Hamburg return after muscle problems

Hamburger SV defender Jordan Torunarigha could return to training on Thursday as he continues his recovery from muscular problems, raising hopes of being available for the Bundesliga rematch against Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend.

According to the Hamburger Morgenpost, the 29-year-old centre-back could take the next step in his rehabilitation after missing Hamburg’s league fixture against SC Paderborn and their DFB-Pokal clash with Frankfurt.

Torunarigha’s return to the training ground will depend on the medical department’s assessment on Thursday morning. The club will determine whether he is ready to resume work on the pitch and how much of the session he can complete alongside his teammates.

However, the Hamburg coaching staff are not yet certain how much work Torunarigha will be able to complete with the group. If his recovery continues as planned, he could still return to the matchday squad for Sunday’s Bundesliga meeting with Frankfurt.

The defender’s availability will depend on how he responds to the increased workload, with Hamburg keen to avoid risking a setback. His return would provide a boost to the club’s defensive options ahead of another demanding encounter against Frankfurt.
