Real Madrid’s winning run highlights Mourinho’s transformation

Real Madrid extended their winning streak to eight matches with a 3-0 victory over Valencia at Mestalla, providing further evidence of the progress made under manager Jose Mourinho.

The performance was praised for its collective quality and the growing understanding between the players. Spanish newspaper Marca described the latest developments in a report titled “Things that seemed impossible are beginning to happen in Madrid”, highlighting the change in the team over the past four months.

According to Marca, Mourinho has built a side defined by determination, high pressing and attacking efficiency. The newspaper also pointed to the team’s improved coordination during both attacking and defensive transitions.

Real Madrid approached the match with Valencia in serious fashion despite the difficulty of playing at Mestalla. They gradually imposed their rhythm, reduced the intensity of the home side and secured a comfortable victory. Their players followed Mourinho’s instructions closely and avoided being drawn into the tension, protests and confrontations that surrounded the match.

Marca said Real Madrid now have a clearly established core, united by a distinct footballing identity and an increasing competitive spirit. Valencia, by contrast, appeared more focused on arguing and complaining than on finding a route back into the game.

Valverde thriving in a new role

Federico Valverde received particular praise after scoring against Valencia. The Uruguay international had also played a decisive part in Real Madrid’s victory over AEK Athens, when he scored the winning goal in stoppage time.

Marca credited Mourinho with bringing out the best in Valverde by using him at right-back, despite the player not preferring the position. The newspaper suggested Valverde has the qualities required to become the best right-back in the world.

Guler makes decisive contribution

Arda Guler has also become a central figure in the Real Madrid team, demonstrating his ability to control attacks and influence matches with his quality in possession.

The Turkey international produced an outstanding display against Valencia, scoring one goal and creating another for Kylian Mbappe in the 3-0 win. Guler was named player of the match and is increasingly challenging the France forward for that award as his performances continue to improve.

Diomande embodies Mourinho’s approach

Ivory Coast international Yan Diomande was described by Marca as one of the clearest examples of Mourinho’s footballing ideas. His energy, relentless pressing and commitment to collective work encourage his team-mates to match his effort.

His contribution goes beyond defensive duties and pressure on opponents. When Real Madrid have the ball, Diomande also creates attacking danger through his movement and ability to generate scoring opportunities.

The newspaper also highlighted Cucurella’s form, saying he had moved beyond the adaptation period and reached his best level. Alongside Diomande, he has formed a strong partnership on the left which opponents have found difficult to penetrate.

The understanding between the pair is now clear and, according to Marca, appears stronger than the link between Cucurella and Brazil forward Vinicius Junior.

The listed fixtures include Tavernes de la Valldigna in the Copa del Rey on 10 November 2026, Valencia against Real Madrid in La Liga on 21 November 2026, and Celta Vigo.
