Real Madrid target Yan Diomande left out of RB Leipzig’s Austria camp
RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande will miss the club’s pre-season training camp in Saalfelden, Austria, after becoming ill, with the Bundesliga side confirming that the Ivory Coast youngster will join the squad once he has recovered.
Leipzig announced Diomande’s absence in an official statement as talks continue with Real Madrid over a possible move for the player during the current summer transfer window.
The club also confirmed that Norway international Antonio Nusa will join the training camp in the middle of next week after completing his holiday. Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, meanwhile, has not travelled because he is in negotiations with another club.
Diomande’s omission comes as discussions between Leipzig and Real Madrid remain ongoing. The Spanish club are continuing to pursue the winger, who is understood to be keen on moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg previously reported that Real Madrid were pushing to complete the deal over the weekend. According to that report, Diomande has made his desire to join Real Madrid clear while talks between the two clubs continue.
Leipzig manager Martin Demichelis had been asked about Diomande’s availability before the squad departed for Austria.
Sky Sport Germany put the following question to Demichelis: “Yan Diomande is sick. You are flying to the training camp at 5:00 pm. Will Diomande travel with the team? Is that the plan?”
Demichelis replied: “I know it is a big topic. Yan is really sick. We will see. I have not spoken to the doctor yet. If he is healthy, he should come with us. If he is sick, he is sick.”
The manager’s comments came before Leipzig confirmed that Diomande would not be part of the travelling group. The club’s statement did not provide further details about the nature of the illness, but said the player would link up with his team-mates after recovering.
The situation leaves Diomande’s immediate pre-season schedule uncertain while Leipzig and Real Madrid continue their negotiations. His absence from the Austrian camp is therefore significant both for the club’s preparations and for the ongoing transfer discussions surrounding the young winger.
Nusa is expected to arrive next week once his holiday has ended, while Gulacsi’s absence is connected to transfer talks rather than an injury or illness. Leipzig will therefore begin their preparations in Saalfelden without three players who had been part of the wider first-team picture: Diomande because of illness, Nusa because of his leave, and Gulacsi because he is negotiating with another club.
