# Real Madrid must sell players to register new signings, says Mundo Deportivo

Real Madrid face having to sell at least one first-team player before they can register any of their expected new signings, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

The club’s first-team squad has reached the 25-player limit permitted in La Liga, leaving no available places for further additions. Real Madrid have continued their activity in the summer transfer market after completing the signing of Carlos Espi from Levante.

Carlos Espi is expected to replace Gonzalo Garcia, who is close to joining Fulham. However, the arrival of Espi does not resolve the wider issue surrounding the size of Real Madrid’s squad, with the club already at the maximum number of registered players allowed in the Spanish league.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Real Madrid will need to remove at least one first-team player from their registered squad if they are to include one of their anticipated new arrivals. The players mentioned in the report are Yan Diomande and Rodrigo Hernandez.

If Real Madrid complete deals for both players, they would need to create two spaces in the squad by allowing two first-team players to leave.

The club’s options have also been reduced by the situation involving Franco Mastantuono. He can no longer be registered with the reserve team after making enough appearances for the first team during last season. That means he is not eligible to use a reserve-team place, further limiting the ways in which Real Madrid can manage their squad registration.

Real Madrid are still waiting for Gonzalo Garcia’s move to Fulham to be completed. Although the transfer is close to being finalised, the forward’s name remains on the club’s official squad list.

His departure would create one opening, but the club would still need another player to leave if it completes moves for both Yan Diomande and Rodrigo Hernandez. The registration issue therefore remains dependent on the timing of Gonzalo Garcia’s transfer and any further departures from the first-team group.

Real Madrid’s position reflects the restrictions around squad sizes in La Liga. With all 25 available places currently occupied, every incoming first-team signing requires a corresponding opening unless an existing player is removed from the registered squad.

The Spanish club’s summer plans therefore involve not only completing new transfers, but also managing the departures necessary to make those additions eligible for selection. Carlos Espi has already arrived from Levante, while the expected transfer of Gonzalo Garcia to Fulham is yet to be formally completed.

Until that move is registered, Real Madrid continue to list Gonzalo Garcia as part of their squad. If the club also brings in Yan Diomande or Rodrigo Hernandez, Mundo Deportivo says at least one first-team player will have to leave. A deal for both would require two departures.
