Real Madrid interest leaves Yan Diomande out of RB Leipzig’s Austria plans
Yan Diomande will not travel with RB Leipzig to their pre-season training camp in Austria, with the Ivorian winger’s absence highlighting his continued desire to join Real Madrid during the current summer transfer window.
According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany, Diomande’s decision not to make the trip was part of a clear plan agreed by the player and Real Madrid from the outset. Negotiations between the two clubs remain ongoing, while Real Madrid are pushing to complete the transfer on Saturday or, at the latest, on Sunday.
The situation has attracted further attention because the explanation given for Diomande’s absence is that he is ill. RB Leipzig manager Martin Demichelis was asked by Sky Sport Germany whether the 19-year-old would join the squad for the trip, which was scheduled to depart at 17:00 local time.
“Yan is really sick. We’ll see. I haven’t spoken to the doctor yet. If he’s fit, he has to come with us. If he’s sick, he’s sick,” Demichelis said.
Asked about the significance of the situation, Demichelis added: “I know it’s a big topic.”
The manager’s comments leave the immediate reason for Diomande’s absence open to interpretation, while the player’s reported intention to move to Real Madrid remains central to the developing story. Leipzig and Real Madrid are still working towards a final agreement, with both sides waiting to see whether the negotiations can be concluded in the coming hours.
The next stage of the discussions could prove decisive for Diomande’s future. Real Madrid’s pressure to settle the deal by Saturday, or no later than Sunday, means the winger’s status may become clearer before Leipzig’s time in Austria begins.
For now, however, Diomande will remain behind while his club’s squad travels to the training camp. Leipzig have not yet reached a final agreement with Real Madrid, and the player’s illness remains the official explanation offered for his absence.
The negotiations therefore continue against a backdrop of uncertainty over whether Diomande is unavailable because of his health, because of the proposed transfer, or because both factors are influencing the decision. What is clear is that the young Ivorian is not travelling with RB Leipzig, and that Real Madrid are attempting to resolve the situation quickly.
