RB Leipzig bring Yan Diomande back into training as Real Madrid move remains unresolved

RB Leipzig have welcomed Yan Diomande back to their training camp, adding fresh uncertainty to ongoing negotiations over the Ivory Coast winger’s proposed move to Real Madrid.

The German club posted a message directly addressing Diomande on its social media accounts, despite expectations in recent hours that an agreement with Real Madrid had effectively been completed.

“Welcome back to training camp, Yan. After recovering from the infection, Yan Diomande has returned to training,” Leipzig said.

The statement has been interpreted by Spanish newspaper AS as a sign of intent from Leipzig. It suggests the Bundesliga club do not believe a final agreement has yet been reached over Diomande’s transfer, even though the deal had appeared close to completion.

Until recently, it had been widely assumed that Leipzig and Real Madrid had settled the key details of the move. That expectation had led to the belief that Diomande would not travel with his current team-mates for their preparations and would instead remain apart from the squad while the transfer was concluded.

His return to training at Leipzig’s camp has now raised questions over that assumption. The club’s welcome message indicates that, at least for the time being, Diomande remains involved in its preparations while discussions with Real Madrid continue.

The absence of a final agreement is prolonging the negotiations and leaving the player’s immediate future uncertain. All outstanding issues must be resolved before Real Madrid can complete the signing of a player whose transfer is expected to be worth more than €100m.

Diomande had been recovering from an infection, and Leipzig confirmed that he was able to resume training after his recovery. The club’s decision to publicly acknowledge his return comes at a time when the transfer appeared to be reaching its final stages.

That development does not confirm that the proposed move to Real Madrid has collapsed, but it does underline that the agreement has not yet been formally completed. Until the remaining matters are settled, Diomande’s status remains unclear.

The player is therefore continuing to train with Leipzig while negotiations over a possible move to Spain remain ongoing. Real Madrid still have the opportunity to sign him, but the current situation means the transfer cannot yet be regarded as final.

For now, Diomande’s return to Leipzig’s training camp has provided the clearest indication that the process is taking longer than expected. The club’s message has also challenged the assumption that the deal had already been fully resolved, leaving the next stage dependent on the completion of all remaining negotiations.
