In an exclusive interview with Metronews, Nicolas Anelka, the former French international, broke his silence on the controversial quenelle affair that led to his departure from West Bromwich Albion. Known for his strong character, Anelka expressed pride in his unconventional path and refusal to conform to societal expectations:

“In life, some opt for the easy path. That’s not my style. I can face myself in the mirror and be proud of my journey. If given the chance, I would make the same choices again. While titles are commendable, they hold no value in the grave. I have no regrets. I could have chosen to please everyone, especially the media, but that’s not who I am.”

Anelka reflected on the obstacles he faced throughout his career, from early skepticism about his success to the recent controversy surrounding his gesture. Despite criticism and adversity, he remained steadfast in his beliefs and actions:

“Despite the hurdles and naysayers I encountered since leaving Paris for Arsenal at 17, I have remained resolute, unwavering in my principles. I always believed in myself and never compromised my integrity. I never bowed down to pressure.”

The interview sheds light on Anelka’s resilience and unwavering commitment to his values amidst controversy and public scrutiny.
