Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium to host World Cup semi-finals, confirms Fouzi Lekjaa
In a statement to the press following an extensive meeting on preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, Lekjaa emphasized the central role of Rabat in the upcoming World Cup.
The city is also set to host matches for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, including games featuring the Moroccan national team.
Lekjaa announced that the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, which will be completed by the end of this year with a capacity of 65,000 spectators, is set to be one of the venues for the World Cup semi-finals.
He affirmed, “Our goal is to host an exceptional World Cup.”
The meeting, chaired by Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit at the headquarters of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, included various stakeholders involved in the preparations.
Participants included Lekjaa, the Governor of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, Mohamed Yaacoubi, and other key figures.
In his address, Laftit stressed the importance of mobilizing all resources to ensure the success of the 2030 World Cup in Morocco, as well as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
He urged all relevant parties to accelerate their efforts and deploy the necessary financial and human resources to expedite preparations.
Laftit underscored the significance of successfully hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as a stepping stone towards the World Cup, which would bolster confidence in Morocco’s ability to host major sporting events.
He also highlighted the strategic importance of Rabat, the capital city, which is set to host numerous events leading up to the World Cup.
The preparations for the 2030 World Cup and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations reflect Morocco’s commitment to showcasing its capacity to host world-class sporting events, leveraging its infrastructural developments and organizational capabilities.
The upcoming transformation of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium is a testament to these efforts, promising a state-of-the-art venue for future international competitions.
