South Africa claimed a 1-0 friendly victory over Egypt on Sunday during the FIFA international window, with Pitso Mosimane crediting his players’ courage and growing confidence for the result.
The Bafana Bafana won through a goal from …, despite Mosimane selecting a completely changed side against the Pharaohs.
The South Africa coach made changes across the team, from goalkeeper to outfield players, handing opportunities to footballers who had not featured in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Mosimane admitted the reshaped squad needed time to settle, but said his players ultimately delivered what was required.
“We changed the whole team. It takes a little time to synchronise and integrate, but as the match progressed, we grew in confidence,” Mosimane said at a news conference.
“What I like, though, is that they are not afraid to play and that you have to give them a chance. I let them swim with the sharks; I threw them into the deep end. Yes, they swam.”
Mosimane took charge of the Bafana Bafana after the 2026 World Cup, replacing Hugo Broos.
