Barcelona have extended the contract of 18-year-old midfielder Pedro Rodriguez until 30 June 2030, securing the future of one of the emerging talents from the club’s La Masia academy.
The new agreement replaces his previous deal, which was due to expire in June. Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that the terms had been completed earlier, before Barcelona formally confirmed the extension.
The decision underlines the club’s commitment to Pedro despite strong competition for places in midfield.
Pedro joined Barcelona’s academy in 2019 and started last season with Juvenil A. He was promoted to Barcelona Atletic this summer, having previously made appearances for the reserve side in 2024 while Albert Sanchez was in charge.
He has featured as a substitute in three of Barcelona Atletic’s four matches this season. His first start came in the team’s away win against Tudelano, and he is expected to retain his place in the starting XI for the upcoming meeting with Logrones.
Pedro is valued for his vision, passing accuracy and versatility. He can operate as a holding midfielder or move into a more advanced role, qualities which have strengthened his prospects of establishing himself in the reserve team.
Competition for midfield places at Barcelona Atletic remains intense, with several promising players also pushing for opportunities.
Pedro Villar is expected to be out for a long period because of injury, while Ebrima Tunkara has returned to training and is being considered for inclusion in the squad next week.
Orian Goren and Mirza Katovic have also been absent recently because of commitments with their respective national teams.
Pedro attracted interest from major European clubs during the past few seasons, but chose to continue his development at Barcelona. He will now aim to demonstrate his ability and earn a place among the young players being backed by La Masia for the future.
