Patrick Vieira’s Senegal deal makes him the nation’s highest-paid manager

Patrick Vieira is set to become the highest-paid manager in the history of Senegal’s national team, with the former France captain expected to earn 35 million CFA francs per month.

Vieira’s appointment as Senegal’s new head coach was officially confirmed after he succeeded Pape Thiaw. Within hours of the announcement, details of his reported salary emerged, placing him significantly above the figures earned by the managers who preceded him.

The former midfielder’s monthly pay is expected to exceed the 20 million CFA francs received by Aliou Cisse. It is also higher than the 30 million CFA francs earned by Thiaw, who was Vieira’s immediate predecessor.

Vieira has agreed to a four-year contract with the Lions of Teranga. Under the terms of that agreement, he would normally remain in charge until the 2030 World Cup, which is the next edition of the tournament referred to in the report.

According to Wiw Sport, the full cost of Vieira’s salary will be covered by the Senegalese state budget. That means his remuneration will be funded entirely through public finances rather than through another source of income identified in the report.

His appointment gives Senegal a new manager after the end of Thiaw’s tenure and places Vieira at the centre of the country’s plans for the coming four years. The length of the contract indicates that he is expected to lead the national side through the next major cycle, culminating in the 2030 World Cup.

The salary figure makes Vieira the best-paid coach to have taken charge of Senegal. His expected monthly income is five million CFA francs higher than Thiaw’s reported package and 15 million above Cisse’s.

Vieira, a former France captain and World Cup winner, now takes over responsibility for the Lions of Teranga on a long-term basis. His agreement is for four years, with the expectation that he will guide the team towards the 2030 World Cup.

The report does not provide any further detail about bonuses, performance-related payments or other terms in the contract. It states only that Vieira is expected to receive 35 million CFA francs each month and that the state will assume the entire salary cost.

For Senegal, the appointment marks a change in leadership and a substantial increase in the monthly salary allocated to the national-team manager. For Vieira, it represents a four-year commitment to lead the side after taking over from Pape Thiaw.
