Pape Cabral: Monaco to secure teenage midfielder on long-term deal to 2031

AS Monaco are set to hand highly rated midfielder Pape Cabral a new long-term contract running until June 2031, underlining the club’s commitment to building around their academy talent.

The Principality side have moved to extend the 19-year-old’s deal after a breakthrough campaign in which he impressed across his first-team debut, European exposure and a prominent role at youth level, according to L’Equipe.

Cabral, who came through Monaco’s academy and is regarded internally as one of its brightest prospects, is viewed as part of the club’s medium-term core and the agreement is seen as a strong vote of confidence in his potential.

Breakthrough under Hutter and Pocognoli

The France youth international, of Senegalese origin, made his first senior appearances last season and quickly caught the eye of then-head coach Adi Hutter.

Cabral was introduced to the professional stage against Lorient before being handed minutes against Manchester City in the Champions League, where he went close to scoring his first goal with a volleyed effort.

His encouraging early displays were followed by further opportunities under Sebastien Pocognoli, who also trusted him with game time before his momentum was checked by a hamstring injury sustained in January.

Despite that setback, Cabral’s performances over the campaign strengthened his reputation within the club and reinforced the belief that he could become a long-term fixture in Monaco’s midfield.

Youth League captain and France youth international

Beyond his senior outings, Cabral has been a central figure in Monaco’s youth set-up.

He captained the club’s side in the UEFA Youth League, showcasing leadership qualities alongside his technical ability. Internationally, he has represented France in youth categories from under-16 level upwards, further underlining his status as one of the country’s more promising midfielders in his age group.

Those credentials were closely assessed by new head coach Filipe Luis over the summer. During pre-season, Cabral’s work rate, technical quality and powerful shooting reportedly made a strong impression on the Brazilian, helping convince Monaco’s hierarchy to accelerate contract talks.

Club decision-makers are understood to have been particularly encouraged by his maturity in and out of possession and his capacity to adapt to different roles in midfield.

Opportunity grows after Bamba departure

Cabral’s prospects of increased involvement in the coming season have also been boosted by the expected departure of fellow midfielder Aladji Bamba.

With Bamba set to leave, Cabral often used as a box-to-box or linking midfielder could be handed a more prominent role in Monaco’s engine room as the club look to balance youth with experience in their squad.

His market value is currently estimated at €1.2m by Transfermarkt, but Monaco’s decision to tie him down until 2031 suggests they believe his worth, both sporting and financial, could rise significantly if he continues his current trajectory.

The new deal would extend Cabral’s stay in the Principality well into the next decade, as Monaco again place their faith in home-grown talent to sustain their ambitions domestically and in Europe.
