Pablo Franco signs contract to take charge of Esperance de Tunis

Spanish coach Pablo Franco has electronically signed a contract to become the new manager of Esperance de Tunis, according to Tunisian radio station Mosaique FM.

The former Maghreb Fes coach had already reached an agreement with the Tunisian club and is expected to arrive in Tunisia in the coming hours to begin his new role. His arrival was delayed because of family reasons.

Franco will replace Romanian manager Laurentiu Reghecampf, who has moved to coach Steaua Bucharest.

Reghecampf was absent last week when Esperance’s squad was due to leave for Ain Draham for a training camp. The incident came before the club reached a formal agreement with Franco over succeeding him.

Reghecampf had left Al-Hilal Sudan only a few days after extending his contract with the club before joining Esperance in June last year.

Esperance currently sit fourth in the Tunisian league with nine points from four matches, having won three games and lost one.

Their next fixture is against Libya’s Al-Suwaihli in the preliminary round – the round of 32 – of the CAF Champions League.
