Orlando Pirates’ Tshepang Moremi replaces injured Lebohang Maboe in Bafana Bafana squad

Pitso Mosimane has called up Orlando Pirates winger Tshepang Moremi to replace the injured Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe in the Bafana Bafana squad.

Maboe sustained an ankle injury during Kaizer Chiefs’ 0-0 draw with Golden Arrows on Sunday. Although Mosimane initially hoped the midfielder might still take part in part of the three-week camp, scans have ruled him out of the entire programme.

The camp includes Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea, as well as a friendly match in Egypt.

“Dr Tshepo Molobi, the Bafana Bafana team doctor, told www.safa.net that Maboe arrived in camp on Sunday night with an ankle injury and after scans were conducted on Monday, a decision was taken to withdraw him,” a statement said.

“He twisted his ankle while playing for Kaizer Chiefs and after undergoing a scan, he will be ruled out from the current camp and this FIFA window,” Dr Molobi said.

Moremi has made seven appearances for Orlando Pirates this season and has scored three goals.

The winger was also included in Hugo Broos’ FIFA World Cup squad. He played in the historic 1-0 victory over South Korea, providing the assist for Thapelo Maseko’s winning goal, and also featured in the 1-0 defeat by Canada.
