French coach Alexandre Lafitte has reportedly emerged as a leading candidate to replace Abdeslam Ouaddou at Orlando Pirates amid uncertain future at the club.

The Soweto giants are monitoring potential coaching options amid growing uncertainty surrounding Ouaddou’s future at the club.

After guiding Pirates to their first South African league title in 14-years, the Moroccan tactician casted doubts about his future, prompting the club’s leadership to look elsewhere.

Despite the uncertainty, Ouaddou has enjoyed a remarkable debut campaign with the Buccaneers. He guided Pirates to the Betway Premiership title and also lifted both the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup, completing an impressive domestic treble.

Interestingly, Lafitte’s name is once again being linked to a role previously occupied by Ouaddou. The 29-year-old Frenchman replaced the Moroccan at Marumo Gallants after Ouaddou left to join Pirates in 2025.

Now, history could repeat itself if Ouaddou opts to walk away from Orlando Pirates, with Lafitte reportedly among the names being considered to take over at the reigning league champions.

Lafitte arrived in South African football with a growing reputation after winning the Ivorian league title with Stade d’Abidjan before taking charge of Marumo Gallants. The former Paris Saint-Germain youth coach was also recognised as one of the youngest head coaches in African club football.

While his spell at Gallants produced mixed results, the Frenchman remains highly regarded for his tactical approach and potential as a young coach.

Orlando Pirates have a history of managerial changes even after successful campaigns, and speculation surrounding Ouaddou’s future has only intensified following comments suggesting he could consider an exit despite delivering silverware.
