Omar Marmoush set for Tottenham medical after saying goodbye to Manchester City team-mates

Omar Marmoush is due to undergo a medical with Tottenham on Wednesday as he prepares to leave Manchester City and join the London club during the summer transfer window.

Marmoush has been given permission by Manchester City to complete the medical, according to The Athletic. The Egypt international said goodbye to his City team-mates on Wednesday morning before travelling to London to finalise the move.

The proposed deal is expected to be a loan with an obligation for Tottenham to make the transfer permanent if certain conditions are met. Its reported value is around £60m.

Marmoush is also expected to sign a four-year contract with Tottenham, with the option of extending the agreement by a further season.

Tottenham are hoping to complete the deal quickly enough for Marmoush to be available for Saturday’s match against Newcastle United. Newcastle are regarded as Marmoush’s favourite opponents, with the striker having scored seven goals against them.

The move would take Tottenham’s total spending in the summer transfer window close to £400m if completed, following the club’s confirmation of Savinho’s arrival from Manchester City.

Tottenham announced the signing of Savinho on Tuesday. The club did not disclose the fee, although reports have suggested the deal is worth more than £75m.

Marmoush is viewed by Tottenham as a key component of the club’s attacking rebuild under manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The 26-year-old joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025. He made 62 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists.

During his time at City, Marmoush won the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

Tottenham began their Premier League campaign with a 3-0 home defeat by Brentford on Saturday. The result came in the opening round of the league season and increased the urgency around the club’s efforts to strengthen De Zerbi’s squad.

The proposed transfer would make Marmoush the latest significant addition to Tottenham’s attack as the club continues its extensive summer recruitment. City’s approval for the medical means the move has progressed to an advanced stage, although the transfer remains subject to the completion of the medical and the final contractual arrangements.

Marmoush’s record against Newcastle is one reason Tottenham are keen to have him involved as soon as possible. The forward’s seven goals against them make Saturday’s meeting a potentially immediate opportunity for him to make an impact, should the transfer be completed in time.
