Noussair Mazraoui to miss Morocco’s World Cup qualifiers due to injury
Morocco will play their next two matches without star right-back Noussair Mazraoui after he suffered an injury setback.
Manchester United confirmed on Monday that Mazraoui will not feature again before the upcoming international break.
The news aligns with head coach Rúben Amorim’s statement last Friday, when he hinted at a possible absence.
The club has not revealed details about the nature or severity of the injury.
However, the announcement represents a major setback for Morocco, who had planned to rely on Mazraoui’s experience and quality on the right flank.
United only stated that the defender will stay sidelined for “the next few weeks,” ending any hopes of his early return.
Mazraoui had been expected to play a key role in Morocco’s two crucial October fixtures. The Atlas Lions face Bahrain in a friendly on October 9 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
They will then meet Congo-Brazzaville on October 14 as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
His absence leaves Morocco coach Walid Regragui with a significant selection challenge ahead of these games.
Mazraoui’s defensive discipline and attacking contributions have made him a vital part of the national team setup.
Without him, Morocco may need to adjust their tactical approach to maintain momentum on the road to the World Cup.
The Atlas Lions, who recently secured qualification, will look to extend their winning form despite the setback.
Fans hope Mazraoui’s recovery progresses quickly, allowing him to return for future fixtures as Morocco continue their preparations for the 2026 tournament.
