Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi set for Newcastle clash wearing protective mask after nose injury
Taiwo Awoniyi will return to action for Nottingham Forest in their upcoming Premier League clash against Newcastle United, but the Nigerian striker will do so wearing a protective mask following a broken nose sustained during an FA Cup fixture.
The 27-year-old was forced to sit out Forest’s recent 2-1 defeat to Fulham but has now been cleared by medical staff to rejoin the squad.
Awoniyi’s injury occurred during a heavy collision against Exeter City in the FA Cup, leaving him with a fractured nose.
Though deemed fit to play, he will have to adjust to the discomfort of wearing a protective mask on the pitch.
Nuno Confirms Awoniyi’s Availability
Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed Awoniyi’s availability ahead of the crucial showdown with Newcastle United. While the mask ensures his safety, the Forest boss acknowledged that it brings its own set of challenges.
“The mask is always something that bothers players, but he is trying to get used to it,” Nuno told reporters during a pre-match press conference.
Awoniyi isn’t the only Forest player adapting to life behind a protective mask.
Teammate Neco Williams has also been wearing one recently, offering some insight into the adjustment process Awoniyi now faces.
