No verdict yet in Morocco-Senegal AFCON title dispute – CAS
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has denied reports claiming it has already ruled on the dispute surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal.
In a statement cited by French outlet Foot Mercato, referencing Senegalese broadcaster RTS, CAS said the appeal remains under consideration and that no final decision has been issued.
The clarification comes after reports circulated widely on social media suggesting the court had ruled in Senegal’s favour and awarded the 2025 AFCON title to the Teranga Lions.
CAS urges public to ignore unofficial reports
The court said the claims were false and urged the public not to rely on unofficial documents being shared online.
CAS stressed that the proceedings are still ongoing and that any ruling will be communicated through the proper official channels once the case has been concluded.
The statement effectively ends days of speculation over the status of the appeal, confirming that no verdict has yet been reached.
Appeal stems from controversial AFCON final
The legal dispute stems from the dramatic conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 to lift the trophy in January, but two months later the Confederation of African Football (CAF) withdrew the title and awarded it to Morocco.
CAF’s decision followed an incident late in the match when Senegal’s players briefly left the field after a penalty was awarded to the Atlas Lions during the closing stages of normal time.
Title remains unresolved
The Senegalese Football Federation subsequently lodged an appeal with CAS in a bid to have the continental title reinstated.
However, with the court confirming that the case is still under review, the final outcome of one of African football’s most contentious disputes remains unresolved.
Until CAS issues its official verdict, the legal battle over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title continues.
