Nigeria’s Emmanuel Fernandez shrugs off Dortmund links as Rangers star vows to finish his Ibrox story

Nigeria international Emmanuel Fernandez has dismissed growing transfer speculation surrounding his future, insisting he remains fully committed to Rangers despite reported interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The 24-year-old centre-back has attracted attention after a remarkable first season in Scotland, with German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen reportedly monitoring his situation.

Fernandez, however, has made it clear that his priority is continuing his development at Ibrox, where he believes there is still more to achieve.

“I just focus on what’s going on here. If you asked me this question a year ago, it would have been the same answer,” Fernandez was quoted by the Scottish Sun.

Rangers star hungry for more success

Fernandez joined Rangers from Peterborough United last summer in a £3.5 million deal and quickly established himself as one of the club’s most important players.

His impressive debut campaign earned him the Rangers Player of the Season award and a place in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Season, highlighting the impact he made after arriving in Glasgow.

Despite his rapid rise and reported interest from top European clubs, the defender insists he is not distracted by speculation and wants to build on his strong start with Rangers.

“I’ve got four years left here and I want to enjoy it. I want to win,” he said.

The Nigerian defender believes his success so far is only the beginning, insisting he still has plenty of room for improvement.

‘I’m not the finished product’

Fernandez has embraced the recognition that has followed his breakthrough season but says he remains focused on becoming a better player rather than being satisfied with his current achievements.

“Love and acknowledgement is a great thing and it makes you feel a bit better about yourself. But I feel there are more improvements to be made,” he added.

The defender also highlighted his determination to remain grounded and continue pushing himself despite the praise he has received.

“I don’t think my personality will ever change. My personality is me.”

Fernandez’s performances have made him one of Rangers’ most valuable assets, but the Nigerian is determined to keep his attention on the club’s ambitions rather than potential moves elsewhere.

“Right now, I’m not the finished product. There’s still more of the story to go on,” he said.
