The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has thrown its weight behind Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman following growing tensions with his club Atalanta over a proposed move to Inter Milan.
Lookman, 27, took to social media on Sunday to confirm he had submitted a transfer request after Atalanta reportedly refused to sanction his exit despite interest from multiple clubs, most notably Inter.
The player is said to be unsettled by the club’s valuation, which has so far stalled negotiations and left both parties at odds.
In a show of solidarity, the Nigerian FA issued a public message of support, posting: “We stand with Ademola Lookman”—a statement that has since garnered widespread attention among Nigerian football fans and beyond.
Lookman, who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON campaign and had a stellar season with Atalanta, is believed to be keen on taking the next step in his club career.
However, Atalanta’s reluctance to lower their reported €40–€45 million asking price has complicated potential talks with Inter, who view the forward as a key target for the ongoing transfer window.
In a further sign of discontent, Lookman has scrubbed all Atalanta-related content from his social media profiles, fuelling speculation that his relationship with the club has broken down.
The situation remains fluid as Inter Milan weigh their next steps, while Lookman waits to see if his request will be honoured.
