Neymar considers Santos exit with Messi and Suarez reunion in sight
Neymar is facing a pivotal decision over his future at Santos, with his contract due to expire on 31 December and Inter Miami emerging as a possible destination for the final stage of his career.
There has been no decision on whether the Brazil forward will remain with Santos, leaving his next move increasingly uncertain. According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Major League Soccer club Inter Miami is among the options that could significantly shape the closing years of Neymar’s career.
A move to Inter Miami would raise the possibility of Neymar being reunited with former Barcelona team-mates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. The trio formed Barcelona’s celebrated ‘MSN’ attacking partnership between 2014 and 2017, producing one of the most memorable forward lines in modern football.
However, there is currently no confirmed agreement between Neymar and Inter Miami. The player remains under contract with Santos and will ultimately decide whether to continue with the Brazilian club, pursue another opportunity or consider retiring.
Questions over Neymar’s position have increased following an incident at Santos’ training centre. According to Brazilian outlet ge, Neymar arrived at the club’s facilities but stayed for only a few minutes before leaving without permission. He did not take part in the recovery session scheduled for players who had featured in the previous match.
His departure caused concern within Santos, although Neymar returned for the team’s next training session. The club chose not to impose any disciplinary sanction on him.
The episode comes as Santos attempts to manage uncertainty surrounding one of the most prominent players in Brazilian football. Neymar has left open the possibility of continuing his career, but has also acknowledged that he could look elsewhere or even decide to retire.
Inter Miami would represent an attractive option because Messi and Suarez are already part of the club’s squad. Their presence means a reunion of the three players who made up Barcelona’s historic attacking trio is at least possible, although there is no indication that a deal has been completed.
Neymar, Messi and Suarez played together at Barcelona from 2014 to 2017. During that period, they became one of the defining attacking combinations of the modern era, combining individual quality with a close understanding on the pitch.
For now, Neymar’s immediate future remains unresolved. His Santos contract runs until 31 December, and the Brazilian remains responsible for deciding what he wants to do in the final phase of his career.
