Newcastle United step up scouting of FC Porto striker Samu Omorodion

Newcastle United have continued to monitor FC Porto forward Samu Omorodion, sending scouts to the Estadio do Dragao for the third time this season, according to Medium.

The latest visit allowed Newcastle representatives to assess several Porto players during their 4-1 Champions League victory over Napoli. Omorodion caught their attention despite only coming on in the second half.

The striker, who has Nigerian heritage, has recently returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture. His display against Napoli provided further encouragement as he converted a penalty and scored an important goal during his time on the pitch.

His return to competitive action represents positive news for Porto, while also strengthening Newcastle’s interest in a player they regard as a particularly suitable profile for their attack.

Former Nigeria star Shittu has warned, however, that “Omorodion should not rush into a high-stakes transfer”.

Porto’s asking price

Newcastle see Omorodion as a centre-forward capable of offering power and greater efficiency in the final third. His physical presence, strength and finishing instinct match the qualities the Premier League club are seeking, especially with injuries currently affecting their attacking options.

Porto are expected to demand close to 100 million euros before considering a sale. That valuation could make Newcastle hesitate, even after the club’s owners recently injected 114 million euros.

Any January move could also be complicated by the Premier League’s financial regulations, including the profitability and sustainability rules, known as PSR.

Omorodion remains under contract with FC Porto until 2029. Transfermarkt values him at 40 million euros, leaving the Portuguese club in a strong negotiating position.

For now, Newcastle’s repeated scouting trips appear to indicate sustained interest rather than advanced negotiations. The situation could develop if Omorodion continues to demonstrate that he has fully recovered his form and fitness in the coming weeks.

Newcastle will soon play their 10th Premier League fixture of the season against Fulham.
