The Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday could introduce six players to one of South African football’s most significant fixtures.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 3.30pm, with a number of recent arrivals and emerging players in line to experience the derby for the first time.
Orlando Pirates
Thapelo Mokobodi has quickly become an important member of the Orlando Pirates midfield since joining from Stellenbosch at the beginning of the season.
The 23-year-old has featured 13 times for the Buccaneers in all competitions and has scored twice. His rapid integration into the side could see him play a part in his first meeting with Kaizer Chiefs.
Simphiwe Masilela is another Orlando Pirates player who could make his derby debut. The 22-year-old was promoted from the DStv Diski Challenge team before the season began and has made an encouraging start at senior level.
Masilela has appeared in 10 matches across all competitions since earning his opportunity with the first team.
Bulelani Sigomoshe is also expected to be involved for the first time in the fixture. The 26-year-old recently joined the Buccaneers from Milford and was brought in as a replacement for the injured Kamogelo Sebelebele.
Kaizer Chiefs
Thabo Moloisane could line up in the derby for the first time after moving from Stellenbosch during the off-season.
The 27-year-old defender has played seven matches for Kaizer Chiefs since completing the switch and is now in contention to face Orlando Pirates.
Rushwin Dortley is another potential debutant for the Glamour Boys. The 24-year-old centre-back returned to action against TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout win after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Dortley joined Chiefs in the 2025/26 season but was unable to take part in the previous derby fixtures because of a long-term knee injury. He is now in line for his first appearance in the rivalry.
Faiz Abrahams completes the group of new derby contenders. The 21-year-old attacker joined Amakhosi on loan from Stellenbosch earlier in the season and could feature against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
